Which enemy downed more Russian (service) aircraft; Germany or Austria-Hungary?
And that was due to. . .what?

I suspect that most losses were due to German action. Austria had a tiny airforce and the overwhelming msjority of those planes available were on the Italian Front.

Neumann reported 358 German victories including balloons (but maybe an incomplete number) on the Russian front. Maybe somebody can add the victory number of Austrian pilots on the Eastern front?

The Russians had produced 5000+ aeroplanes in WWI if I remember right.

Hi

Its a possibility that the Neumann numbers included German claims on the other Fronts like Macedonia and Palestina...?
And Probably omly is for the period from Sept 1915 until Sept 1918

Gunnar,

I admit that is possible despite Neumann is saying Ostfront and not "an den Ostfronten" (plural).
At least other sources make a difference between West and summarize other losses under "East". Victories pre-September 1915 were seldom and October/November 1918 is also not so important in the East. But the number of victories in Italy (especially End of 1917) should be subtracted, as well as Macedonia. On the other hand I would always also expect some unreported victories on the Russian front.
